GORILLAS LAND

Stablished in 1902, the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden is a zoo and botanical garden located in Oklahoma City's Adventure District in northeast Oklahoma City. The zoo covers 119 acres (48 ha) and is home to more than 1,800 animals. The Oklahoma City Zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the American Alliance of Museums. The first gorillas imported to Oklahoma City Zoo were a couple called Solomon and Sheba. They arrived to this park in September 1960 from Africa. Fredrika, living currently at Zoo Miami, was the first baby gorilla, when she was born in June 1974.
Gorillas at Oklahoma City Zoo are kept inside of an area inaugurated in 1993 and which is called Great EscApe, where two outdoor yards are dedicated to the gorilla troops, one to the orangutans and the other to chimpanzees (although all the three species can be rotated through all of the enclosures). Each gorilla habitat has a central climbing structure, a canopy with glass viewing for visitors, and a large grassy field area. The indoor enclosure is provided with hammocks, ropes, and other environmental enrichment elements.
