Housing almost 5000 animals of 700 species, Toledo Zoo is a zoo located in Toledo, Ohio. The zoo began in 1900 and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), participating in over 30 Species Survival Plans. It is also a member of the Butterfly Conservation Initiative (BFCI). The zoo has also been home to many firsts in the world of zoos; such as the first hippoquarium (and subsequently the first video of a hippo birth), as well as being the first place in the world to display the Kihansi Spray Toad. The first gorillas at this zoo were imported in May and October 1957 from Africa and they were a couple called Togo and Porta, who were, at the same time, the parents of Figoro, born in November 1967 at Toledo and becoming the first ever baby gorilla at this zoo.
